The Intracoastal Waterway, Cumberland Island National Seashore, and Amelia Island, Florida, are only minutes away by boat.

Under the Real Estate tab, information is available regarding Atlantic Development's Signature Homes program, architectural influences, and the community's design review board process.

Under other tabs, you'll find information about local history, Cumberland Harbour's lifestyle and amenities, planned marina, and the beautiful surrounding coastal area, including Cumberland Island, Amelia Island, and Jacksonville.

Cumberland Island Annual Horse Count

The 2009 Annual Horse Count takes place this weekend, Mar. 20-22, at Cumberland Island. The annual census utilizes volunteers from around the country, including many students. Cumberland Harbour residents Bernie & Mary Huber, National Park Service volunteers, also take part.

Though impossible to count virtually every horse, the census, by utilizing the same methods year to year, has developed over time a clear picture of horse population and health trends.

Volunteers gather for a review session Friday evening. Saturday entails counting in the northern part of the Island. Saturday night features the traditional Brats and Bubbas Barbeque. The census finishes on Sunday, where counts are done in the south. Protocols employed allow the final tabulation to identify and exclude redundant counts (ie, same horse counted twice).

The existence of horses is not without some controversy. Horses are not native to the island, and environmentalists charge horses feed on and destroy sand dune plant life, which anchor the dunes and serve to protect the dunes and island from erosion. The Park Service has in this case decided to allow the horses to remain.

Plum Orchard Outing July 19, 2008

Cumberland Harbour residents enjoyed an outing which featured a tour of the Plum Orchard mansion and grounds on Cumberland Island by CH residents Bernie & Mary Huber. Bernie & Mary have served and continue to serve as U.S. Park Service volunteer caretakers of the Plum Orchard estate, located on U.S. Park Service land within the Cumberland Island National Wilderness Area.

After boating over, residents enjoyed a picnic lunch under the live oaks and a tour of the historic mansion and grounds by Bernie & Mary. It was a great day & thanks to all who worked to make it a success, particulary Rita Bruce, Kay Robertson & Susan Gregory who organized, and the Cumberland Harbour "flotilla" boat captains, who transported everyone to and from Plum Orchard.
